This is not to excuse the impact of it but I think it is really sad that we don't have more history in our science, particularly in the social sciences. I did get a student eval once that harshly complained I taught way too much history! But how we think about human ability, and the evaluation of that ability, is DEEPLY historical and it's impossible to untangle all the implicit beliefs we carry around culturally until we acknowledge that history
