"These are great ideas - you should be a professor and get some research students." Yeah, tried that: 0 for 5 on funding proposals (including two rejections from NSERC for what would eventually become Software Carpentry). But as the AI tides rise around us, and the job market for junior developers goes from bad to worse, I think that mentoring students is more important than ever. It's a shame that passing on what you've learned isn't a well-recognized career stage…
