Something for which I will be forever grateful was the segment in 7th Grade Social Studies class on Advertising. Laid out the various techniques, such as "bandwagon," "endorsements," & so on, & how they worked on the audience's mind.
I don't remember if it was ever said explicitly in as many words, but the Tl;dr I came away with was, "to whom is it useful that I believe this?"
Has provided grounds for a very helpful skepticism, ever since.
