I hate these thumbnails too. The youtube algorithm is absolutely fucked. For a brief period they attempted to change my youtube UI so that the comments were on the right in a narrow box where the recommended videos were, and the recommended videos were just a massive sea of schlock underneath the video player, if that makes sense. Just trying to maximize the thumbnail exposure to keep users on the site. Luckily they changed it back for me but god it was gay
