It is worrisome, I think others in other countries may be doing so but not same superficially.
The rhetoric is obvious in the US for this idol worship, in other countries it is "I would die for this country" sort of thinking. Which is less obvious but has similar connotations (it implies the leader of a nation's war is somebody worth dying for).
