I think Americans and maybe all westerners need more awareness of stuff in China. Or just stuff in Asia. They're all familiar with our stuff - you can talk with them about our sports teams, or what NYC is like (shithole, and they agree), or what its like camping in the rockies or the Appalachians. A shitload of them have come and seen for themselves. But we mostly don't know even one little thing about their country.
