Ici, ON BOYCOTTE AMAZON
Amazon has ceased its operations in Quebec, closing seven sites, including one fulfillment center, two sorting centers, three delivery stations, and one AMXL (extra-large) delivery station co-located with a sorting center.
The decision was announced on January 22, 2025, following the unionization of 200 employees last spring at Amazon’s DXT4 warehouse in Laval, Quebec.
In total, 1,700 regular employees and 250 temporary seasonal workers were laid off. Additionally, delivery drivers and truck operators will also lose their jobs.
Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN) President Caroline Senneville condemned the announcement as “outrageous,” accusing Amazon of being “anti-union.” She stated: “My message to Amazon is always the same—if our money here in Canada is good enough for you, then our labour laws should be enough for you too.”
Last October, Amazon lost its legal challenge against the workers’ unionization efforts at the province’s labour tribunal.
In response, the union has called for a boycott of Amazon.
