If one eye is near sighted, and the other far sighted, you have what is colloquially called "Garfield vision" after President Garfield. Personally, my left eye is near sighted. If you give your brain time to adjust (less than a month), depth perception works just fine with Garfield vision. It compares the difference in focus to determine distance.

In real situations, my depth perception is just as good as anyone else. The drawback is going to those "3D" movies - and I have a pair of glasses for that purpose, since they assume binocular vision. It gives me a headache, so I am not big on 3D movies.

The other drawback is the "depth perception" test for drivers license. It doesn't actually test depth perception, but binocular vision - which I, of course, fail without those old glasses. So I take them to renew my license as well. Since the license says "corrective lenses", I always carry them in the car as well - just in case I get pulled over.

A big plus to Garfield vision is that I can close or cover my right eye and get a close up look at circuit boards and other tiny machinery or electronics - without an annoying monocle.
