Whenever I hear someone say something like, “Without government, who will build our roads for us?”, I can’t help but shake my head.
That’s because the money that the government uses to build the roads comes from us, the citizens.
So, if the government were to give us our money back, and if we want to build a road connecting town A and town B, for instance, it’s very possible for us, people living in these 2 towns, to come together, pool our resources together, and build the road that we want!
And I bet that the road we build ourselves will be very cost-efficient and cost-effective, compared to the road built by the government too!
That’s right! Even if the government has economies of scale on their side, the road we build will still be more efficient and cost-effective!
Anyone who’s ever tried to hire constructors to build his own road would agree with this!
That’s because when we build our own roads, the money we spend to build our own roads is ours. But when the government (i.e. politicians and bureaucrats) build the roads, the money they spend is not theirs.
Therefore, they will have less incentive to try to build the highest quality road using the least amount of money.
It kinda makes me wonder…
Since the government is so bad at this job, and is not likely to get any better at it, shouldn’t the government have the humility to admit that it can’t do this job properly and return the tax money to its people so that they can this job themselves?
And it’s not just building roads. There are many other jobs that the government is clearly bad at.
Why then does the government continue to take money from its citizens and squander it in its many projects?
The answer is either ignorance or malice.
We, the people, do not deserve this.
We, the people, deserve better.
