Star Wars bothers me for similar reasons... specifically the interior and exterior of the Death Stars. For space ships, the artificial gravity seems to be pulling toward the center of mass (like a planet). But floors inside seem to be stacked perpendicularly to central axis. They're flat and parallel to each other, not layered in nesting spheres like an onion's layers.
The pattern of explosions seems to confirm the center of mass gravity.
