I have always believed the future of better networking would come from again serving the same kinds of people that wanted to, and often did exploit the early web to serve the broad public interest: mostly programmers, librarians, educators, and scientists. I refer to this as the “serious web.” And there is no reason we can’t have another if we don’t surrender to every fashionably stupid idea that big tech wants to ram down our throats for a little fun and a lot of profit: mostly theirs.
