I just had to go and check who the CEO was when I left in 2016 as both Larry and Sundar were so forgettable. I don’t recall either of them ever coming to visit the Zürich office despite their having all those private jets, which is quite remarkable considering. Eric knew that leadership isn’t to be taken for granted - he was pretty much always on the go visiting offices and holding town halls and answering questions. But the other two were pretty much ciphers, especially once TGIF became so stage managed with pre-screened questions. When you have dozens of VPs and SVPs and hundreds of directors ruthlessly climbing over each other looking to cement their influence and their millions and the CEO is nowhere to be seen this is what happens. It’s a cautionary tale.
