Casual reminder that modern speech compression codecs don't compress sounds, but essentially model the neural impulses sent to a voicebox in the encoder and transmit them to a decoder which then models the entire speech apparatus.
With some tweaks, if you could probe your nerves, you could just plug the signals into a decoder and get back fully coherent speech.
