I had a job where my manager's job was to get me promoted. This meant lining up projects that would exhibit the requirements for the next promotion. All I had to do was execute on the requirements and adding things the requestor never thought of allowing me to add value directly. It was a great system and let him spend time in the meetings with product looking for the projects and not me.
