Let's face it the "Linux Desktop Problem" is not one of performance, it is a "default install" issue.
For example, my significant other has Windows installed because she "needs" Word (for work docs). Yeah, LibreOffice, but no.
In the mean time she has all kinds of buggy behavior (sometimes things print to the network printer, sometimes they don't, etc.) Any given day we both have bug frustration with either her Windows or my Linux.
But she will never change as long as work is using Windows and they will never start using Linux. So there is your market share prediction, which I agree with.
