I feel like these are the most controversial thing in cycling. And i don't think they should be. If you want to take the lane just take it.
(My view is they probably provide little safety but do allow getting passed cars during peak hour so net positive)
Also removing helmet laws and allowing cycling on footpaths is good, we can still build cycling infra.
