The underlings did not check their job descriptions to see if “scapegoat” was part of their jobs.
I personally, in my days as an IT consultant, took the option of being treated as a scapegoat as acceptable (as long no real legal liability was attached).
Surely you don't expect your betters to be accountable? What would be the point of reaching these levels, if you still could be kicked for banalities like a peon?
