I'm getting really tired of seeing folks perpetuate the idea that in order to be a "great" software engineer you "need" to understand business, marketing, and product along with the coding we do. If that's the case then why do companies need to hire full time folks for those areas? Those folks never "need" to understand code so why are we forced to cross discipline when they won't?
Classifying greatness like that is a lie big tech keeps telling us. We can just be empathetic to those areas.
