Tonight, something different on #monsterdon
In place of our usual fictional fare, we're watching the 1977 documentary The Giant Spider Invasion. It's about that event, which we've all heard of, in which a black hole opened in rural Wisconsin and let through spiders from the spider dimension. Giant spiders.
Many of us are too young to have lived through the Giant Spider Invasion - I myself was born in 1979, as part of the post-Giant Spider Invasion Baby Boom, so I didn't witness it first hand. My schools were always very hesitant to teach about The Giant Spider Invasion, so it is very much shrouded in mystery for me. My elders were too traumatized and spoke of it only in hushed tones after the children had all gone to bed.
So, I am in for a journey of discovery tonight.
