The real cost of war: This #painting came out of him at 23 years of age, in what was to be the last full year of his life, before he was ground into sausage by WW1. Who knows what he could have accomplished and if perhaps we'd even hold his name today alongside Picasso and Brancusi. His sculpture was even more precocious. So was his personal life. But all that was obliterated in a trench in the Pas-de-Calais.
