It's basically the same as pgp signed usenet - what we used back in the 90s. The aberration is the shared secret (password) accounts on centralized platforms with zero (nada, none) authentication. (It's trivial for any of the centralized platforms to forge a message from any user.)
The problem in the 90s was that crypto authentication was hard for normies. The biggest innovation of Nostr is packaging nsec management for normies.
