That sounds really insecure and pathetic. Making sure that one's beliefs are presented as flatteringly as possible and avoiding the embarassment of looking wrong is incredibly important. However, I have 100% confidence in my beliefs, and so making sure I look good should never be able to stop me from performing experiments and trying to understand and talk with people who disagree with me.

I don't understand why you think the issue is that people need to be okay with looking like morons with stupid opinions. Is it that inconcievable to you that you could just have enough conviction that you don't worry about being proven wrong anymore?
