Would you like a little Ractopamine with your steak? How about some Zilmax, otherwise known affectionately by the feedlot industry as Vitamin Z!! What are you talking about? What is Ractopamine? What is Zilmax? I will give you a brief overview, but you need to go do some research in order to fully understand how sick and twisted the food industry is: These two drugs are "beta-agonists", which are common asthma medicines. One side effect of Asthma medicines is unwanted weight gain. Hmmm, unwanted weight gain! I know an industry that loves weight gain! The animal husbandry industry. But but but, these drugs cause heart problems and they are banned for use in animal husbandry in 160 countries! No worries, we'll pay off all the regulators! So,..... Net result is that these drugs are fed to Farmed Fish, Cattle in Feedlots, Chickens and pigs. Lots of extra weight! There is no withdrawal period before slaughter so you are getting a passive dose with every bite! YUMMY!! Need another reason to seek out your local grassfed farmer? Ask the rancher the tough questions! Do you feed beta agonists? Some people believe they are "organic" or that they are not feeding this or that and they don't realize it is added to certain feeds or supplements they buy. Unfortunately, you have to know ALL the questions to ask! I believe that if you eat Grassfed beef from cattle that graze native pastures 365 days a year is probably the purest form of protein known to many! On native pasture, cattle will eat 50 or 100 different types of grasses and forbs which all have different nutritional and medicinal properties.
