I've been thinking about federation for social networks (#Mastodon, #Fediverse, #Pixelfed, you name it).

At the extreme end that offers me the most control, privacy, autonomy, naming, moderation etc I'd be hosting my very own single user instance. And I'm somewhat inclined towards this.

But ... that wouldn't scale to everyone doing it. The network traffic & storage & resources explode, among other things.
