There are places where it's charming or quaint or 'authentic' to hear people speaking in 'informal' ways, but far less so in more formal contexts (like RNZ, for example) where clarity of communication is important. And, of course, some speech patterns in wide use are simply wrong. We have to remember that authors, even those who champion informal dialects in their dialogue, tend to employ editors. The editor's job is to honour the context.
