If an adult child has had a hard time with a parent, being low contact for several years, and then later the contact improves, could you please not call that "trying their best"?
It's that type of shit that made it difficult for me to break contact. I felt like I just had to try harder, that I just wasn't good enough.
Frankly why should one even "try their best" to be in contact with their parents? If that's how you feel then something's clearly wrong. I'm not "trying my best" to be in contact with my friends. I love them, it's very easy.
