In my space-opera WIP, I try to strike a balance between plausible, weird, cool, and narratively useful. I avoid deeply detailed technical descriptions, but provide just enough to build a “plausibility scaffolding.” The tech is somewhere between hand-wavy science-magic & hard-science
I also avoid narrating from the POV of characters who are actual experts in what's happening, so the whole thing has a sort of "every-person” level of fluency
