Funny how modern tech companies have sold us convenience while making our lives more complicated. I just set up a VCR in under 2 minutes while drunk off my ass and am currently watching decades old TV. If I had been setting up an IoT device, this feat would have required an internet connection, an account with the manufacturer's web service, a credit card, another account with the streaming service I wished to view, and a lot of patience. That's not to say that everything old is better, just that I feel we've very much been ripped off by modern tech. :/
