A genocide is the erasure of an ethnic identity, or a "genos", such erasure can be the result of a massive destruction of said peoples, or of an erasure of their customs, language, religion or cosmovision. And it was the second kind the one the Spaniards imposed on us, as they did elsewhere in Latin America (the exceptions being Argentina and Chile where the indigenous population wasn't integrated into the colonial order, but massacred and excluded like in the US, Canada or Portuguese Brazil)
