Not that people *can’t* figure it out, I truly believe most users are smarter than people give them credit for, I'm just saying it's friction signing up and it can lead to paper cuts even after you're using it.
They're not fatal by any means, but I think they're a big factor in non-techie people joining Mastodon that some other networks have gotten.
