I may still be in debt.
I may still be homeless/sleeping in my car (which is increasingly less road worthy, though I hit a new 50 mile MPG record on Monday! 69.8MPG average over 50 miles, whoa!).
But, at least I submitted some pull requests to some libre/free open source software that I think makes the world a less insufferable place, and submitted a story to undeadly.org about one of those projects too (which I'll leave in the queue for at least another editor to give it a once over before publishing, as we are apt to do in that collaborative way).
I could write more about the car stuff (TL;DR I drove a LOT on Monday and test drove another car and stuff) but no doubt that saga will have more nightmarish stuff to write about later and I am exhausted.
I also saw a few films on Tuesday in the theater and I won't waste much space on them here and now but when the best of the three was maybe the one titled Rifle Club (and I hate guns)? sigh I dunno, not a good day for movies.
The other two were: Marco (Malayalam with English Subtitles) which just felt way too long, but at least mercifully had an intermission. Still, long, slow pacing, way too much violence and smoking and alcohol (seems to be a common theme in a lot of movies from India that get screened locally for some reason) and worst of all: hints of a potential sequel if you stayed past the end credits. It sincerely does not need a sequel.
And UI (Kannada with English Subtitles). The UI stands for "Universal Intelligence" apparently? It had a lot of "AI" VFX during the opening credits which got me off on the wrong foot for sure. In theory it had sort of a post modern narrative about movies and commentary on a population that has been deceived by politicians stealing all their money and power from the people, who if they would just wake up from looking at their "smart" phones, might reclaim what has been thieved from them? But the way in which it told the story (aside from the bad "AI" VFX) felt as if it wanted to be one part Alejandro Jodorowsky's Sante Sangre and another part Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis with a HUGE HEAPING of Indian mythology with Kalki and Satya and the yugas. Like, it was kind of a mish mash; and not awful but also not fantastic and the framing story just felt as if it was kind of a cop out entirely, though having Kalki's character argue with the script writer towards the end was maybe almost a pay off that was worth all of the lead up to it? Except, it wasn't. As much of a mixed bag Megalopolis was? I still think it had more going for it (but maybe I just like Aubrey Plaza that much? Though it's in poor taste, it is at least topical, I am guessing her now deceased husband probably had different feelings about her maybe?) I can't recommend this movie, but if you've run out of good viewing options, I guess there are worse things? If you want a wtf kind of movie, it may be your cup of tea, but it wasn't mine.
Rifle Club, best of 3? Does also not make it worth recommending. It just wasn't as insufferable as the other two, maybe because it was the shortest of the three? That was probably a big part of it, but some of the characters were kind of endearing. Definitely lots of violence and meat too, not very vegan/vegetarian friendly to understate it. More for weapons (specifically gun) fetishists. I never want to watch Equilibrium (2002) again, but for all the gun stuff in Rifle Club, there was at least nothing as moronic as Equilibrium's "gunkata" (and if you are into that sort of thing, IMHO, Rocket Jump's comedic videos on "Cool Reloads" are unequivocally better viewing, and I doubt any of that stuff would have been made without John Woo HK action gun sagas taking "wild west" on screen gun play to the next level in the 1990s anyway).
Here's hoping those PRs are merged by the time I wake up; otherwise today felt pretty blah.
