In the late 1980s, the record industry saw a modest lag in 7-inch single sales and used the opportunity to replace 45s with cassingles, or cassette singles.
Looking at the data in retrospect, it feels like a terrible decision.
It doesn’t help that cassingles are kind of a pain in the ass to use. (At least in my opinion.)
