Probably not a popular opinion, but I don’t really have a beef with those who don’t make me a priority. I just make a mental note of it and move on.
For me personally, I have room for my parents, two close friends maximum, and one “extra.”
The extra gets my full, undivided attention for maybe two outings per month.
My parents and two close friends are allowed past the “do not disturb” mode on my phone and I’d pretty much do anything for them if they’re in need. They call me at 1:30am, feeling disturbed about the latest episode of “Below Deck” they just watched? Dude, I’m there. I’ll be engaging in the conversation enthusiastically, asking pertinent follow-up questions and whatnot.
Everyone else pretty much gets firewalled out unless they’re paying me for my services. I know that sounds harsh but in life one must prioritize projects, relationships, etc. My method is a bit more rigorous and formal than most, but it’s served me well since high school so…
