IMO, DeepSeek isn't competing against ChatGPT it's competing against Llama. It's local performance is maybe slightly less than Llama 3.3 but it's much much faster on consumer hardware.
Plus, with the decensored version of the weights, its output can be pretty spicy! I'm still experimenting with that.
