Why did I choose pain? Because SDL's nice API doesn't support some obscure and unnecessary features like tessellation, mesh shaders, and raytracing - most of which my current GPU doesn't even have support for anyway - and that's just completely unacceptable to me
(also it's not actually painful but actually enjoyable to learn what the GPU does at this low level and be in control of it)
