Is there any part of UnitedHealthcare's business model that isn't fraudulent?
UnitedHealth just got got caught screwing consumers again. This time, for its sales agents' deceptive strategies.
Consumers began complaining about ending up with supplemental insurance policies they had not intended to buy.
Turns out, UnitedHealth subsidiary HealthMarkets and its agents violated state sales and marketing rules:
* Fleeced low-income consumers who qualified for free health coverage by quoting them bundles that included premiums for supplemental products, without explaining that the underlying health coverage was free
* Allowed agents to misrepresent themselves to consumers as insurance advisors or licensed benefits consultants when they were not licensed as such
* Bundled life insurance into medical insurance quotes without indicating that multiple products were involved or that consumers could buy the major medical coverage by itself
* Misrepresented health care discount programs as insurance by using terms such as "premiums," "co-pays" and "carriers"
Why are these fraudulent health insurers allowed to continue operations? Revoke. Their. Licenses.
For example, three years ago President Biden imposed a zero tolerance for gun stores that don't follow regulations. In 2024, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives revoked more gun store licenses than in any year over at least the past two decades.
OK. Great. So do that for our fraudulent private healthcare industry.
