What's interesting is that the marriage rate has basically flatlined since 2010 or so (before that it had been on a steady decline since the 70s), and the divorce rate has been decreasing. So maybe getting fixed up with a friend's girlfriend's coworker wasn't such a great system after all.
Online dating does seem to have a whiff of sadness to it, but maybe filtering out people you're likely to be incompatible with has some advantages in creating more stable relationships.
