For de-smudging lenses (NOT SENSORS), I use Pancro cleaner and Kimtech wipes. Pancro is industry standard for cinema but less well known in still photography. It works better than anything else I've tried. A bottle is expensive but goes a long way. Spray lightly on a Kim-wipe and wipe the lens from center out in a circular motion. If you do it right there shouldn't be any residue or spots.
