I cannot be energy sovereign with a nuclear power plant.
The huge centrally planned hydro and nuclear power plants are a great way to keep a population dependent on the entity on control of the grid.
Perhaps in some future with small scale village-size solutions, but we're not there for a long time.
I do however generate more solar electricity than I consume in a year.
In Sweden which is dark in the winter, we need to keep the grid running with hydro and fission.
A small scale Stirling or steam powered CHP device might work, but the only alternative I can see in winter is a ~20 kWh battery and diesel genset.
Solar panels are fusion siphoning devices and they are a fantastic complement that increase my sovereignity and grid dependency.
Their energy ROI is about 5-10 years I suppose.
Fission is fantastic if you're comparing to huge wind farm, but not good for small scale sovereign individuals.
