And dialing in my issues, my threat model specifically - I'm not worried about being hacked into by general hackers or even nation state. I'm more worried about being sopped up in rhe surveillance state (which is iOS and stock Android with google play store).

I hear you about Pixel. And I agree to a certain extent, but Google designed and built that phone hardware up. Ignoring the baseband, I have no idea about the SoC itself. But Google touched it and its icky. Yes thats FUD but I'm trusting my gut here. Again, I feel like a toddler not eating mushrooms. But it feels icky. So yay.

Honestly I'm really looking at Linux phones now. If I can get Signal working on it, it'll be enough. Would have to do that through some android emulator though.

All in all, I dont like any of the options. Nothing has really changed since I last looked into it.
