Today we celebrated the life of Aunt Terri.
She is a saint.
The room was packed with people who loved her for myriad reasons. All spoke of her grit, her kindness, her humor. I spent no small part of my childhood running around her house with my cousins. It was a couple blocks away along residential streets. We ran those streets all times of day and night on bikes and boards. Aunt Terri always kept an eye out. The smell of cigarette smoke, fresh coffee and newspaper wafted out the cracked window that opened with a crank. She sat at the table looking out, reading. Always a smile and cackle but zero tolerance for bullshit. I am grateful to have had such an explary example of being a rock solid foundation for family and community.
We'll miss you Aunt Terr.
