Sudden realisation: Elon Musk’s one true talent is dazzling regional governments with his mythical business genius and promises of billions of jobs into giving his companies massive tax breaks and letting him do whatever he wants. Both SpaceX and Tesla would never have been a thing without dubiously awarded government contracts (SpaceX) and starstruck governments handing out huge incentives to build on their patch (Tesla). But Twitter doesn’t work that way, and he thinks advertisers are like governments in that he feels *entitled* to his share of the pie whatever he does.

So now Twitter’s on the rocks, and Elmo’s run out of ideas because there’s no huge bottle of corporate welfare available for him to suckle on. His only talent is leeching off the public purse.
