The "what will we do when the US system is lost and we turn to fascism?" thing is about soft power vs hard power. Liberals think that soft power was intended to make people in other countries do America's will without us having to shoot or bomb them. But it wasn't. It was to make people go along within America, to defend it even as we shoot and bomb people elsewhere.
