The Dread Slender Gnome on Nostr: It's my understanding, that it used to be well-known among mental health ...
It's my understanding, that it used to be well-known among mental health professionals that incessant talk about suicide will increase suicidal ideation and even attempts. (I'm saying "used to be", since it seems a lot of people in that field have thrown that particular caution well and truly into the wind. )
But here's my question.
Is it possible there might be a similar effect with mental health problems in general? That continuously talking about how this and that group have such a weak mental health and has so many problems and disorders, might also create a self-fulfilling prophecy?
Might such excessive focus on how those people are very mentally ill, directly encourage mental fragility or ideation of mental fragility within that population?
If so, there are some serious questions around balancing public advocacy for certain populations, and not unintentionally exacerbating the problem.
