i will dissolve
though earlier than most -

before death
the fermented swamp
will empty the city

the walls
will run wet
mourning the bounce
and ricochet
of conversation
the choices chosen
and the libraries soaked
to bloat and loss

and carrion birds
sliding the edged wind
will scold
the absence
that gouged
the still proud buildings
so hollow
