TIL: I thought that to comply with PECR, you had to get explicit consent from a user to send them electronic emails, e.g. by ticking a box when signing up (and not auto-ticking it to make it effectively opt-out).
Turns out there's a "soft opt-in" exemption, which means you can send unsolicited electronic mails about "similar products and services", which probably covers pretty much anything.
