I think the really funny thing is that God didn't take any revenge against them. It's their own arrogance and faith in civilization verses nature.
This is pretty clear on God's opinion of their mockery:

"MAT 5.43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
MAT 5.44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
MAT 5.45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust."

So God isn't into revenge. Everything is powered by God. God distributes his grace equally and without favor. We just need to acknowledge the source of our life.
The arrogance of these celebrities is anger twisted by their impression of what Christianity and Righteousness is. We all are sinners and we all are arrogant. The key is to accept Jesus' sacrifice and learn from his example when we are healthy and strong as well as when we are weak.
In our anger against them we are no different than them. It's not an easy pill to swallow. But it's clear in the text of Matthew that Jesus is not advocating that God is about revenge.
