1. Let people know you are a person, not a bot:
- Fill your profile
- Make an introduction post and talk about yourself (who you are, your life/passion/hobbies, and other things), and tag it #introduction and #Intro. Then pin that post so it stays on top (you can do it by pressing the three dots on the bottom right of your post, select "Pin on profile")
2. Post your donation request link in a post. Unlike some other platforms, you can put links on your posts/toots so don't worry about it!
- Talk about yourself/circumstances in your donation post (pure donation posts might get you banned from some instances/users). You can add these hashtags #FreePalestine #Palestine #MutualAid and tag "@ palestine @ a.gup.pe" (please remove the spaces in between!).
- Make sure you are posting on global visibility when you post your introduction post and your donation post (this looks like a globe and will say "Public").
- Talk about what you see, what you experience, in between the donation posts too. Stay consistent and recognizeable on photos and videos, and try not to use symbolic photos.
3. Increase your visibility. mastodon.social is muted by a lot of other servers due to spam and moderation issues, so you might not be very visible.
- Search people using the Palestinian flag as handle, and try to direct message them to ask for their assistance in boosting/reblogging your post. You can do this by tagging the people in your post.
- You can consider one alternative server which is built to be more Palestinian friendly: https://freefree.ps/
4. Be careful with what you post
- Mastodon/Fedi is not a secure place to share sensitive information, so be careful to not share information you don't want tracked.
5. Other tips
- If you encounter anything hateful, report them by pressing the three dots on the lower right corner, and then report (mastodon.social is very bad at moderating, so they might not care about your report but other instances might and they will ban that user).
- If you are able to, make a backup account on a different instance, especially if you are on mastodon.social and link to each other
- Refer to other profiles you have on other platforms/websites
Other resources for you:
- Follow @ FediTips @ social.growyourown.services (remove the spaces between) for tips on how to use this place
- You can fill in a form here to ask for specific help: https://amalinitiative.org/#participant
Let me know if you have any questions! I can't see your posts yet (maybe it takes time...), but please tag me when you do so I see it and can boost it for you.
