Certainly there has been sexual repression over recent centuries. I think it actually has had benefits for societies.
Less STDs ie syphilis.
Mose cohesive societies if marriage is encouraged and divorce is frowned upon. Most men will get a sexual a partner.
Also it encourages family stability.
