"content": "They clearly think there is value in keeping the platform open. The \"official\" use case is running self-built versions of XNU (since that's open source). The mechanism also ties into multi-boot, which is another thing macOS developers expect to be able to do, and relies on a lot of the same mechanisms.\n\nApple *could* have said screw it and just turned Macs into iPhones that run macOS, but clearly they thought that would have been a bad idea. Can't guess exactly what their motivations were specifically, but there you go.",
